North Atlantic

It is unique. In its greatness I have swam, wander, and rely.
I am proud of being part of it.

North Atlantic, a vast source of life.
What are you doing to protect your ocean? Our ocean?

Speaking of which, check this out.

21.7.12

The art of BIking

Today, I am looking for something special.

And yes, that little person climbing up is me. I reached the top.

Another first time. Challenge accomplished!

19.7.12

Hello, my name is

Tomorrow I will be on the phone with Dr. Daniel Pauly. Can you believe this?

He is one of my heroes when it comes to Fisheries Ecology. I just hope I do not blow everything up.

I miss the Norwegian nature.
So full of everything you have ever wished to experience.

7.7.12

When the sun goes down

There are just a few things that comfort me.

One of them is watching a movie.

4.7.12

So good, it smells

Stinky days. I hate when everything goes perfectly well. I am not superstitious at all, I just hate being treated as an ignorant, even if by no one specific.

Have you ever had those moments when you feel so stupid because you are so aware of what surrounds you? The feeling of knowing too much, you can’t stand the truth anymore. It is just like going to the movies already knowing the end. Or reading a book knowing how it ends. And so on. It deeply annoys me. Oh or when you get too close to an idol. Then there is no fun anymore.

20.6.12

Analogue vs digital

Shoot analogue!
You won’t regret it.

Look how cool it could have been in this one.

Regardless to say that I inherit a very neat camera, which is pushing my limits. I am crazy in love with it. Here are some reasons why.

I am an amateur, I am quite aware of it. No worries!

13.6.12

The final countdown

Ready?
Set!
And here we go.

10 long days to the biggest day in her life. And, for sure, in mine. I cannot wait to see her taking such an important step.

11.6.12

Broken ice

Now the next step is to get serious. Today starts my last week, and soon I have to face life without a plan. It is easy when everything is thought for you. You learn so much.

But then it is time to actually apply all that knowledge on a daily basis. Mistakes are allowed, but, consciously, I will know the exact consequences of all my failures.

Welcome back gluten and animals proteins!

30.5.12

Self-defence

On my defence, I have to say that it is not really my fault. I just lack the right machine at the moment. I also lack a lot of space. 5 Tb to me precise.

28.5.12

Day 8 -eintroducing lean proteins

Fresh new start.

Now that I can add seafood and legumes to my diet, I can satisfy my craving for something bigger. Running/jogging with only smoothies was not an easy step, by sure worth trying. It actually increased my awareness of how food affects me and my daily activities.

I am loving this!

16.5.12

Visitors

Back to old times, when focusing on counterclockwise movements is my main aim. However, having friends visiting is also nice. I will make sure I enjoy their company and am still able to keep up the pace.

Wisdom, where are you?

9.5.12

Delays

Norwegian rules, bright sun, and better moods.

This is what you get when stuck at an airport for almost 2 days. Give me this and I’ll be happy.
Sleep two hours and fly to another course.

3.5.12

Tough weather

What is the point of investing energy, time, resources, and patience under such conditions?

Neat research could have been taken out of here, but no. Let’s just play around with the system. The ECOsystem! Do not tell me to shut up, I am curious. Just curious.

1.5.12

Sailing, sampling, surveying

Out in the sea. Loads of ice.

CTD goes first. (This one can never fail!) Check chl-a maximum and set the depths profile. One tow, two tows.

Poor fishermen. Trapped by the icebergs, or shall I say floating ice plaques?

Finally “home”, some warm food. A glass of wine and go back to work.

29.4.12

Land of greens and whites

Far, far away, I am. Above the Arctic Circle. Qeqertarsuaq for two weeks.

A place once named Grønland. A name to never be changed again. White is its main colour, yet it is probably one of the greenest places on Earth.
My fellow countrymen, who I am very proud of, have once sailed here, on their way to Asia. Look what they found.

28.4.12

My “cota” in Peniche

If it was not my father…

If it was not my father, I would not be here.

“Se não fosse o meu pai

Se não fosse o meu pai, eu não estaria aqui.

26.4.12

A moist Alentejo

Travelling by train has its own advantages. Do you recall my previous travels? Here, here, and here. They were different, yet both overwhelming.

On my last trip, I realized how this country resembles my own. Just like a moist Alentejo. Much greener though.

17.4.12

“Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost”

We are lost anyway. The point is that if we all dance our bodies out, we will definitely be happier.

Try it! The body works, the mind follows. Or is it the other way around? Sigh. This is exactly what I love in dance.

By Pina Bausch.

15.4.12

Hard to breath, it was

Next time, I’ll take the train. I really like travelling by train.

You get to see the nature. Country side nature, the real thing. Not those urban landscapes want-to-be’s that tell you nothing at all. Besides, country siders are much more down to earth.

Wind mills spread all over and I’m glad I came. So much more life quality than in the capital of my own country. I can breath here. I can be in contact with nature without any social pressure. It comes naturally, not forced.

It’ll be a great summer. I am really looking forward to exploring more. Not strictly in this flat country. I do miss the city of the 7 mountains. I can’t wait to show you all its beauty. There is so much I missed there. Here is a new challenge: explore more of Scandinavia!

Vi ses snart og tak for “city bikes”!
