2 rolls of Ilford HP5+, 400 ISO, 120 mm, B&W
1 roll of Fujifilm Superia, 400 ISO, 135 mm, Colour (UPS!!!). No worries, it works anyway.

I can’t wait to scan all this.

And ALL the reasons why I am giving up on sugar coming soon.

No turning-back

The food is amazingly good. I feel healthier than ever.

What else?

Oh My Gosh

When you look at me, I blush.

Old choices made easy

“And my soul, from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted – nevermore

Let it rest, let it go. Better days are now prevailing. If we compare to previous doubtful phases, where whether to follow aquatic science was a big decision to consider. I still remember what made me come here. I still remember how many choices I wrote on the list where we were supposed to write 6. I wrote one. ONE! It was either this or nothing. Why should I consider doing something else? This is what I wanted. This is what I still want. And this is what I am doing. I am glad I made this choice, for I think it was the right one.

Those who think their paths are somehow being misconducted, try to focus on your goal. If that does not help, maybe it is time to change. I keep repeating this, because I think it is extremely important: if you are not happy with what you are doing, change it!

“Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost”

We are lost anyway. The point is that if we all dance our bodies out, we will definitely be happier.

Try it! The body works, the mind follows. Or is it the other way around? Sigh. This is exactly what I love in dance.

Small fish

“They eat according to their size.”

Is this news to you? We all eat according to our size. At least that is what we are supposed to eat. Greedy people should be aware that their stomach may explode for all the food they are trying to squeeze in.

Our nutritional requirements are usually proportional to our size. Therefore, smaller means lower demands, thus being able to avoid overexploiting the sources. Specially the natural sources. The Earth is supposed to fully accommodate all species living within. However, if we adopt an unnatural behaviour, such as consuming more and more, the outcome is obvious. The sources supply will no longer meet mankind demands.

(Un)common mistakes

Please, be aware that your today’s perception of reality may not be the same in a very near future.

What you aim at achieving may change. Your surroundings may not provide the most creative environment. Or your needs may simply not be met.

Most of public services nowadays are sort of trapped in a mid-age crisis. And they are not alone. Why wouldn’t I be happy in Southern Europe? Folks, that’s easy! There is too much corruption. The gap between the so called social levels does not meet the gap between the value to the society of those social levels. And a whole bunch of other reasons.

I hate to complain, so do not make those questions. It is pretty straightforward, isn’t it? You either fight for fairness or survival. Which one is driving your life?

Do not let the so common mistakes become an habit in your life! That is truly sad.

Relax: check!

8 movies, 3 days. What is left to do? Work my way up.

There is no such thing as laziness here. To cultivate the mind is definitely required for a healthy life style.

I am ready now. Bring them in!

Pairs of light

A tripod. A 135 mm film. Shot once. Shot twice.

I am a big fan of double exposures. This is what I’ve got out of the blue, which made it much more interesting.

Yes

Shoot analogue!

If your answer to the above question is the title of this post, then you are out of my black list.

I am so glad I fell into film photography. It’s the real thing. Down to earth. Demanding, but worth it. I learned a bunch of new concepts and techniques. I even improved my digital photos, just by starting shooting film. Love it! Cannot stop!

Meet me upstairs

It is quite annoying when a complete day of work slips right through your hand, just in front of your eyes.

The good thing is that it is actually a good exercise for my shorter-than-ever memory.

I will meet you way high, never below a certain threshold. Those who remain downstairs will be left behind. Aim high! Move high!

Be high! It doesn’t really matter which drug you use. As long as you are within your own limits (personal-set rules, and not those set by someone else), any type of relationship (food, culture, etc.) works. Just make sure it turns you into a self-awareness state. That you become a self-thinking human being. With clear goals, a bright future will be always ahead of you. Ok, enough of this talk. What I mean is that you should try to overcome your expectations and do not allow yourself to go down. Be productive! Do not waste time with non-sense, and be sure to always look forward.

If you are high, than congratulations, you fool! Aim higher now!

La Traviata

There is no room for everything. The days should be longer.

I either skip sleeping, or leave one of my beloved ones behind. Hard to choose, but it has to be done.

Focus is needed! Organization is harder when one longs for more than is actually able to perform.

Square me forever

It just takes 15 sec, maybe less, if the sun is shinning.

Nevertheless, there is no need to run. She’s just around the corner.

Huge files can be quite demanding. Just sit back, relax. No need to rush.

23.2.12

Planetary boundaries

During the recent years, the term sustainability has been used quite broadly. As a biologist, I seldom think of the role of people within a society. My definition of sustainability is, therefore, linked to resilience of a group. This group may refer to a population, a single species, a community, a region, and others. But before, I would like to focus on something else (still related to this subject).

According to the Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC), there are nine planetary boundaries. These refer to border definitions of natural ecosystems, including humans (yes, we are supposedly a part of nature too). For the sake of misunderstandings, I decided to summarized them in a single sentence each, so I can refer to them in the future. I give really short descriptions, with a non-scientific language, just to keep it simple. I apologize to scientists who read this.

1) Stratospheric ozone layer - Filters out ultraviolet radiation from the sun that could otherwise increase incidence of skin cancer in humans, and damage terrestrial and marine biological systems.

2) Biodiversity - Number of species within a specific region that, when reaches 0 (zero in that specific region) for a specific species, this species is then extinct in that region.

3) Chemicals dispersion - Emissions of persistent toxic compounds that may reduce fertility and permanent genetic damage.

4) Climate Change – Alterations in temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, precipitation, among many others, that have diverse effects within the Earth system.

5) Ocean acidification – The oceans absorb around a quarter of the CO2 produced, rising its acidity, and reducing carbonate ions, which is essential for shell and skeleton formation in organisms such as corals, and some shellfish and plankton species.

6) Freshwater consumption and the global hydrological cycle - This cycle, as a key to keep the planet within the climate boundary, is, however, strongly affected by climate change, and is dramatically decreased by human consumption.

7) Land system change – The transformation of forests, wetlands, and other vegetation types in agricultural land reduces biodiversity, affects water flows, and biogeochemical cycles (such as the one of carbon).

8) Nitrogen and phosphorus inputs to the biosphere and oceans - Human activities convert huge amounts of N2 from the atmosphere into reactive forms, which pollute waterways and coastal zones, are emitted back to the atmosphere in various forms, or accumulate in the terrestrial biosphere.

9) Atmospheric aerosol loading - Without aerosol particles in the atmosphere, we would not have clouds, by reflecting incoming sunlight back to space, which may keep the planet at “living temperatures”.

I hope it is understandable now.

I did it! Ok, not everything, but I am trying. I have achieved quite a lot for such a short time.

I already told you I am not addicted.
